Definition of Services
- Burn Centre: This level of in-patient burn care is for the highest level of injury complexity and offers a separately staffed, discrete ward. The facilities are up to the highest level of critical care and have immediate operating theatre access
- Burn Unit: This level of in-patient burn care is for the moderate level of injury complexity and offers a separately staffed, discrete ward
- Burn Facility: This level of in-patient burn care equates to a standard plastic surgical ward for the care of non-complex burn injuries

Five ambulance services cover the Network:
- East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust
- North East Ambulance Service NHSFoundation Trust
- North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust
- Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust
- Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust
Patients requiring transfer by air are transported by:
- Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance
- Great North Air Ambulance
- North West Air Ambulance
- Yorkshire Air Ambulance
Patients with burn injuries are taken to the nearest emergency department (ED) or if appropriate to the nearest Major Trauma Centre (MTC). However, the hospital may not provide the required level of burn care service. Patients are therefore stabilised and then transferred onto the appropriate Burn Service within the Network.
